i. Furiously knitting into the darkest hours

Of the night, relying on old memories of love

Fever cracks open like memory—half burn, half light. A fist of fire blooms deep in the chest, splintering into the throat, spilled red. As it slips through the veins like fingers across a jazz piano, the skin shivers with wet heat.

Today, we enter a new year, cradled in the quiet thrum of the Wind’s breath, like a promise passed between eardrums in the dark. The currents of tomorrow stir at our backs, both gentle and wild, murmuring of untenable futures, of doors that open only to close again.

Comfort can be found in the most mundane of scenes, like the first fall of snow or the reflection of a glimmering pool. Yet these scenes do not remain undisturbed

For this ekphrastic issue, An Escape into Time, we invite you to step into the swirling, unchartedness of Time. Our artists guide our vision of Time, molding it into a second, a moment, a geography where there is no clock to dictate our rhythm—no hands to pull us forward or backward.
